The Port of Lake Charles is a deepwater seaport located on the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It is the 14th busiest port district in the United States based on tonnage. The port manages the Calcasieu Ship Channel, which extends inland for 36 miles and out into the Gulf of Mexico for another 32 miles. The official name of the port is the Lake Charles Harbor & Terminal District, which covers an area of 203 square miles. The port is a preferred choice for breakbulk, specialty, and project cargo, ranging from international lumber shipments to global industrial needs. It is also known as "America's Energy Corridor" and serves as the world's No. 1 LNG export area. The Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District is the 12th-busiest port district in the United States, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers waterborne statistics.
