This harbour handled peat, sand, bricks, and other regional goods starting from the 15th century onwards Brick production and a local shipyard emerged in the 18th century. However, after road improvements and dike construction in the 1970s, the original harbour lost its Ems connection. Today, it’s a village market square with no direct tidal access Ideal for sailing enthusiasts navigating the Ems estuary, families enjoying waterfront facilities, or cyclists on scenic routes—many praise it as a “wonderful view of the Ems” stop along local bike paths
